Manager Keith Curle says Carlisle United have offered a short-term deal to Dutch winger Luis Pedro.

The Angola-born player, 25, has impressed during a trial spell with the Blues.

Pedro scored twice in last Tuesday's reserve friendly against Barrow.

And Curle expects to clinch a deal for the former Feyenoord player, who was at Brunton Park to watch United's 1-1 draw with Wycombe.

Curle told the News & Star today: "We are trying to sign him.

"He is a player that's got an air of arrogance about him in how he plays.

"He can take the game from the middle area into the final third, he can score goals and has a bit of quality.

"We've been fortunate to have a look and have made the decision to offer him something until the end of the season."

Curle said Pedro - a former Holland Under-19 international - had come on United's radar through the contacts of recruitment chief Lee Dykes.

He started his career with Maastricht and has also been on the books of Go Ahead Eagles and Heracles Almelo in Holland, Bulgarian outfits Botev Plovdiv and Levski Sofia.

The free agent was most recently with Romanian side Targu Mures.

United were unable to finalise a deal in time for Pedro to be involved against Wycombe but Curle said he expects the paperwork to be completed in time for Good Friday's game at Yeovil.

Pedro and debutant midfielder Martin Smith could again feature in another reserve friendly at Burnley on Tuesday.
