Magpies manager Jansen has signed the 21-year-old on a non-contract deal.
Meppen-Walter, who left Carlisle by mutual agreement earlier this season, made his debut as a sub for the National League North side in their 1-1 draw at Gloucester on Tuesday night.
He came off the bench in the 70th minute, having joined Chorley after a brief spell with Evo-Stik Northern Premier League side Ashton United.
Meppen-Walter is trying to rebuild his career after falling out of favour at United under Keith Curle.
The Blues manager allowed the former Manchester City prospect to leave in November with the defender having not figured for the first-team this campaign.
It is believed the United boss had concerns over Meppen-Walter’s diet and conditioning, despite admitting the ex-England Under-18 international had plenty of ability.
Chorley chairman Ken Wright said Meppen-Walter “did ok” on his debut, adding: “Obviously the boy is lacking match- fitness.”
Meppen-Walter, who was signed by former United boss Graham Kavanagh, made 42 appearances and scored two goals for the Cumbrians.
Jansen, one of the best home-grown players in United’s history, has led Chorley to eighth in his first season as manager.
They are eight points outside the play-off places after a run of five wins from their last seven games.
The 38-year-old Jansen’s team also includes former Blues midfielder Jack Lynch, who recently extended his deal with the Lancashire club.
