Police have confirmed the body of a woman found in the area of Burgh-by-Sands, is the missing 28 year-old, Sophie Burns.

The discovery was made around 3pm yesterday (February, 21).

A spokesperson from the organisation said: "The body of a woman found in the area of Burgh-by-Sands yesterday (21st February), has been formally identified as Sophie Burns, 28, of Dalton Crescent, Carlisle.

"The circumstances are not believed to be suspicious.

"A file has been prepared for the coroner," they said.

The family has requested that their privacy be respected at this incredibly difficult time.

Sophie's friend, Lucy Jane Cottier laid a tribute on social media last night: "Soafi, I can't believe I'm writing this.

"You were loved by so many people. I wish you could have seen all the love and support since you went missing.

"I wish I could just talk to you one and I wish I could have done more to help you.

"I know you are at peace now from all your demons.

"Rest easy Soaf, until we meet again. The brightest star in the sky."

Facebook search groups were created and appeals shared on social media, with the hope someone would be able to help locate Sophie over the past two months.

However, Sophie has not been seen since she was reported missing on Sunday, December 12.

On the Help to Bring Sophie Home Facebook page, Lilly Van Verdriet wrote:
"After all this time - at least she is found.

"Thank you for everyone who helped searching - Sophie was a wonderful person and we saw how much she brought people together after she went missing.

"We will never forget her."
