A UKRAINIAN family who fled the conflict in their home nation and settled in Cumbria have been supported by a tourism business.

TygTickets, a ticket software company that serves many tourist attractions, has recruited Mila Udod, who now lives in Whitehaven, into their customer support team.

Mila, 29, fled from her home in Bucha six month ago with her husband and 10-year-old son.

Bucha, which is located on the outskirts of Kyiv, endured horrific civilian massacres which were conducted by the Russian occupiers in the early stages of the ongoing war.

Mila and her family now live in Cumbria thanks to the generosity of a host family and she described how she still has relatives in her war-torn homeland.

She said: "Our family members and most of our friends are still in Ukraine, and things are not good there at all.

"The children don’t have the opportunity to go to schools and universities, because of the everyday rockets flying over their heads.

"At the moment people don’t have electricity most of the day, which affects heating. They have difficulty with water supplies and many people lost their jobs with the beginning of the war."

Despite the incredible hardship faced by Mila and her family, she detailed how she used her working experience in Ukraine to secure a job that would help her to support her family in the UK.

She said: "I had a few jobs in Ukraine including working as an English teacher and working for an American company on transportation and logistics, so it was easier for me as I spoke the language.

"My husband found things more difficult, but he is learning English and has also found work on a farm, and we are happy we have an opportunity to live a safe life here.

"Cumbria is a beautiful part of the UK, and we like to walk on the beach and next to the lakes, people are so lovely and kind here."

Reflecting on her families choice to flee Ukraine, Mila commented on the opportunities she and her loved ones have had since arriving in Cumbria.

She said: "We made the right decision to leave, since now our son has an opportunity to continue learning at school and at the boxing club and communicate with his peers.

"Our family feel safe here, thanks to the huge support of the United Kingdom and the kindness of the British people."

Maureen Huck, operations managers at TygTickets praised the way theat Mila has adapted to her new role in her new country.

She said: "Mila has fitted seamlessly into the team, although we are all aware of the difficulties her family have faced at home.

"She is a huge asset to the business and popular with our customers."
