A by-election will be held in Carlisle after the death of a councillor.

Cyril Weber represented the Harraby North ward of Cumberland Council until his death earlier this year, hence a notice has been issued that a casual vacancy exists.

A casual vacancy is filled by means of a by-election, which is triggered by local government electors from the Cumberland Council area.

On receipt of the requests to fill the casual vacancy, the returning officer will set a date for the election to be held within 35 working days of the date of the request.

Mr Weber was a councillor for decades, representing Harraby on the former Cumbria County Council and the current Cumberland Council.

His death saw several tributes from people of various political backgrounds who spoke of his loyalty to the area and care he had for residents throughout his career.
