HETHERSGILL Parish has celebrated the 'great success' of its community event.
The parish held its 'Big Picnic and Play' event on Saturday, May 4 at the Hethersgill Parish Hall.
The event included a sack race, egg and spoon race, three legged race, relay race and running races as well as wellie throwing, dog contests, and crafts competitions.
In addition, the event saw the conclusion of Hethersgill's scarecrow competition which had 21 entries and was won by an entry named 'The Polis'.
Marti Irving from Hethersgill Social committee was on hand after the event.
She said: "The day was a great success. Around 80 people attended including children and while it was a bit of a damp start it brightened up and the games were great fund with a lot of laughter.
"Thank you to everyone who came and joined in.
"There is a lot of work goes in to make it happen and Hethersgill Social Committee extend their sincere thanks to all those who helped set up and clear away the field, volunteered to be judges, donated raffle prizes, provided equipment, music and their time."
Marti also extended her thanks to the Hethersgill community who helped bring the event to life and the Hallburn Windfarm Community Grant which assisted in financing the event.
She said: "There are too many to name but without our community this event simply wouldn’t be as successful as it has been. We are looking forward to hosting next years’ event now.
"Special thanks to the Hallburn Windfarm Community Grant which contributed significantly to the cost of hosting the event."
