Firefighters from Carlisle's two stations were called to reports of a van on fire just outside the city this morning.
They were called to the incident, in Cumdivock, near Dalston, at around 5am.
A crew from Carlisle West fire station was the first to arrive.
A spokesman said: "The vehicle was well alight when we arrived.
"We used one hose reel jet, compressed air and firefighting foam and two crew members wore breathing apparatus.
"The owner of the van was there and had phoned it in.
"We were at the scene for about an hour."
