A man died after falling 650ft from a mountain in the Lake District.
The 54-year-old, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was walking on Helvellyn's Striding Edge on Sunday.
Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team were called out to the incident - one of five they dealt with over a "difficult and challenging" bank holiday weekend.
Mike Blakey, Team Leader said: "Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with the family and friends of the man who tragically lost his life after falling over 200m from Striding Edge.
"This particularly sad rescue has touched the hearts of all concerned. The family was very well equipped and this was simply a tragic accident."
On Monday a second man was seriously injured in the same area, when he and his dog fell a similar distance.
Patterdale MRT, who were called out at about 3pm, worked with the Great North Air Ambulance Service and the Coastguard Rescue helicopter to bring the man to safety.
The GNAAS doctor and paramedic climbed up to his location alongside Patterdale Team members to treat him at the scene.
He was airlifted to the Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle at about 6pm.
A spokesman for Patterdale MRT said: "Given the poor weather, the team swiftly lowered and carried the man below the cloud to a point at which the Coastguard Rescue 199 helicopter could evacuate.
"The Coastguard helicopter crew did an astounding job at getting as close as possible to the team in atrocious flying conditions.
"An amazing and truly heroic effort by this air crew and the doctor and paramedic who flew with him."
The man's dog is currently at a local vets after been treated by the rescue team's vet at the scene.
He has suffered a serious leg fracture and was due to have an operation. His condition is described as comfortable.
Mr Blakey added: "We are all hoping for a positive outcome for both the man and dog as every emergency service member involved gave their all to give the best friends the best possible chance of survival.
