TWO drivers have been airlifted to hospital following a head-on crash on one of Cumbria's busiest roads.
The collision between a Toyota, being driven by an elderly man, and a Volkswagen Passat happened around 4.45pm today on the A66 at Braithwaite, near Keswick.
Both drivers had to be cut free from their cars by firefighters before being taken away in two separate air ambulances. One of the drivers was taken to the Royal Preston Hospital and the other to Royal Victoria Infirmary in Newcastle.
It is not know how serious their injuries are.
The road in between Braithwaite and Portinscale remains closed while investigations and recovery work are carried out. Diversions are in place.
