Two lanes of the M6 were closed for almost 10 hours after a vehicle fire overnight.
Emergency services were called to the northbound carriageway of the motorway, between junction 41 for Wigton and junction 42 for Carlisle south, at about 10.50pm yesterday, following reports a wagon was well alight.
A spokesman for Carlisle east fire station said about 70 per cent of the HGV was on fire.
Firefighters used four sets of breathing apparatus, hose reel and compressed foam to put out the blaze.
The wagon, which was carrying plasterboard, was destroyed.
Crews were on scene for more than four hours, making the vehicle safe.
Two lanes of the northbound carriageway were closed until about 8am this morning.
