A Sonnet to Diana
Diana a goddess it seemed to me so
Entered our lives with a wonderful glow
Aunts we had but not like this one
Her beautiful smile lit up a room

As a young man i was in love with your charm
You put me at ease, your manner so warm
Throughout the years, most people decline
Diana you matured like a very fine wine

At Richard’s burial you showed us your class
Your garden flowers were strewn on the grass
Whitehaven loved you, and now you are gone
Your style, and your beauty will live on and on

Go meet the family in Heaven above
Remembered here for your warmth and your love

From the age of 11 yrs old, I spent the summer school holidays with my Uncle Richard & Aunty Diana and cousins Mandie & Gill, it was Aunty Diana who welcomed me into the family. Diana would organise outings and activities to keep us occupied. One outing in particular sticks in my memory, she took us to Mother Shipton’s Cave in Yorkshire. I found it fascinating and a bit frightening which all teenagers secretly like, she had made us a packed lunch as we would be there for several hours. That’s how I will always remember her, always busy, always caring and being so kind to a motherless child.
