Stacey’s Coaches pulled out of running its school bus routes earlier this month and today confirmed it is shutting for good.
The company was one of a number of businesses devastated by flooding in December.
It was the third time Stacey’s had been hit and bosses say it was one time too many.
In a statement, the company said: “This has been an extremely difficult decision because we know that we are one of the busiest and more popular transport companies in Carlisle with over 20 years’ experience in the game.
“The decision was made after the devastation of the 2015 floods.
“Eight-and-a-half feet of sewage water and hydrologic oil ravaged our head office and depot and vehicles on Saturday, December 5.
“The recent floods crippled many homes and businesses; history repeated itself for the third time for us, so we decided enough was enough. The decision was made from the heart, and we will be sad to say goodbye.”
The statement says it was felt it was best to leave while the business was successful, and thanked the “loyal customers, colleagues and friends” who have been so supportive of the decision.
“We’re ready for a change,” it continued. “This is a positive change not a negative one – we’re doing the right thing.
“So many of you already understand that watching everything you’ve worked towards washed away in front of your eyes seriously takes its toll and, although it was a hard decision to make, we are leaving with a huge smile and with some great memories.
“We are eager to start making plans and new memories – watch this space.
“Thank you again from the bottom of our hearts, it’s been a pleasure to work as such a big part of the community, and we feel honoured to have received the support we have since the floods.”
