Workington Library is set to close its doors for refurbishment work.
Cumbria County Council is set to install new flooring on the ground floor of the Oxford Street building.
New wheeled shelving is also due to be put in to give more space for the venue to host activities and workshops.
The library will close at 5pm on Friday, April 20 to allow the work to be done.
It is due to reopen on Saturday, April 28.
Councillor Deborah Earl, the council's cabinet member for community services, said: "I am delighted that works to refurbish Workington Library will be commencing soon. The additional space created is a fantastic opportunity for library users and community groups to get more out of their local library.
"Libraries are a vital part of local communities and here in Cumbria we are determined to protect and invest in them."
