Two would-be shoplifters went into a Carlisle supermarket and filled up a suitcase full of ink cartridges but took off without actually stealing them.
Police were called to Sainsbury's in Church Street this morning about 7.15am to reports that two people were shoplifting.
Staff witnessed them take a suitcase from a display and then fill it with printer cartridges.
A spokesman for Cumbria Police said: "They have then left the scene without taking the suitcase."
Officers are still investigating the incident as shoplifting.
Anyone with information should contact them on 101.
