An education centre close to one of Cumbria’s best-loved mountains has scooped a top travel award.
The Blencathra Field Studies Centre, near Keswick, won bronze in the Best Educational Product at the British Youth Travel Awards in London.
The Blencathra Centre offers biology, geography and geology trips for primary age up to university students, as well as families and individuals on learning holidays throughout the year.
Tim Foster, head of the centre, said: “We were over the moon to be awarded a Bronze Award and see our hard-work with the 9,000-plus students that visit the centre each year pay off.
“Our visitors come from all over the UK, and for many it is their first trip to the Lake District.
"During their courses, students encounter our approach to ‘green tourism’.
"It is a unique educational product, enriched through an awareness of the special relationship between people and the environment, even more so since the region was announced a UNESCO World Heritage Site.”
The awards were co-ordinated by the British Educational Travel Association.
Emma English, the association's executive director, said: "On behalf of the board of directors I would like to thank all of those businesses and individuals that took part and wish many congratulations to our winners and finalists."
