Police have been called in to investigate an early-morning car fire on a Carlisle housing estate.

Firefighters were scrambled to Sewell Road, Currock, at 5.35am today where a Volkswagen Bora was ablaze.

The fire happened in a cul-de-sac of the street, close to its junction with Mount Pleasant Road.

A fire service spokesman said that the incident was being treated as "suspicious" and police are investigating.
