More than 200 sheep have died following a crash involving a Wm Armstrong lorry driven by a Carlisle man.
The Longtown-based firm's Scania HGV was travelling on the A76 in Scotland and was the only vehicle involved in the collision at 10.50pm last night.
It happened near to Enterkinfoot, south of Sanquhar, and the road was closed overnight.
Police Scotland said: "The driver, a 27 year old man from Carlisle, received minor injuries in the collision and did not require hospital treatment.
"At the time of the collision, 440 sheep were being transported to the Birmingham area and about 220 died in the collision or were subsequently put down by local vets.
"Due to the nature of the collision staff from Police Scotland, Scottish Environmental Protection Agency, Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Scottish Ambulance Service and local farmers and vets were all involved in the incident."
The road reopened at about 5.30am.
Witnesses are urged to get in touch with Police Scotland on 101, quoting log 4406, of February 25.
