SCHOOL pupils in west Cumbria celebrated finishing their SATs with a splash of colour as they completed a colour run for a good cause.

Children at Hensingham Primary School donned their old clothes and ran through clouds of coloured powder paint to raise funds for Hospice at Home West Cumbria yesterday.

Steph Carrick, nursery higher level teaching assistant at the school, said that it was a good way for the pupils to let off steam during a difficult term.

She said: “Because it’s just been half term and before that it was SATs they’ve been doing lots of other sports activities.

“We have got our year six group who will be leaving us in July.”

The parents of nursery children were also taking part. Steph added: “They have got a lot of parents coming along, it’s a nice community involvement.”

Hensingham Primary School does a lot of charity work to promote generosity to the children.

“We like to fundraise for charity anyway. Every year we try and do something,” she said: “We either do the Red Nose day or Sport Relief.

“We’d like to do a bigger one.”

The colour run involved running laps of the school field through clouds of paint to raise funds for Hospice at Home. The event takes place in schools across Cumbria to aid the palliative support organisation in offering end-of-life care and therapies.

Dearham Primary School launched the season of colour runs in early May followed by St Gregory’s, Workington, on May 21.

The runs are supported local businesses and in 2018 they generated in excess of £22,000 from the efforts of 16 schools and more than 3,000 children.

Hospice at Home provides home nursing, lymphoedema care and bereavement services.
