A mountain rescue team were called to action after a walker had sustained an injury.
The injured man had been walking along the Pennine Way from Dufton to Alston, on Sunday, when he hurt his ankle and was unable to continue the walk.
A spokesman for Penrith Mountain Rescue Team said: "Two Land Rovers were deployed to drive along the track from Garrigill to Greg's hut where they had sought shelter.
"The casualty and his two companions were driven to their accommodation Alston."
It took four volunteers two hours to complete the rescue.
