LOCALISED flooding caused by heavy rain that battered Cumbria overnight has caused considerable disruption today.

A number of roads are closed or impassable with schools being forced to close and disruption being caused to rail services.

The following roads are affected:

  • A69 Between Brampton & Warwick bridge passable with care, traffic still very slow
  • B5301 Aspatra to Arkleby closed. Will remain closed overnight
  • Wigton to Aikton Road (near Moorhouse Mill) - Flooded/closed. Will remain closed overnight.
  • Blennerhasset Bridge (River Ellen) - flooded/blocked
  • Woodhouses to Orton Rigg Road - flooded/blocked

The following roads which were previously affected, have now reopened:

  • B5299 Dalston Road (Carlisle)
  • B5302 King Street and B5305 Station Road in Wigton
  • A6 Carleton to M6 J42
  • A595 Red Dial (near Wigton)
  • A595 Cardewlees to Newby Cross
  • Kingmoor Road (Carlisle)
  • Houghton Road (Houghton)
  • Scotby Road (Scotby)
  • A689 Milton to Hallbankgate near Brampton, now passable with care
