Almost eighty kittens are at Eden Animal Rescue and they’re running out of space.
The centre has been overwhelmed with kittens this season and is struggling to find homes for them all.
Centre manager Sarah Bean, is worried that there is still a long time left in the breeding season and is already worried about finding a home for the ones they have.
Sarah said: “We have more than ever, our foster homes are full and we’re struggling for space in the centre.
“Every year we’re getting more and more kittens and we just don’t know what to do with them all.
“I want to encourage people to get their cats neutered just to help stop so many having to come into rescue or worse.
The team at Eden Animal Rescue, based at Moorlands Head Farm, Penrith, work round the clock to help the abandoned kittens. the staff have been feeding some of the smallest at two-hourly intervals to make sure they’re happy and healthy.
Sarah added: “We’re happy to support people that’s cat has a litter and will help them find a new home but we need them to help us. If they’re able to get them checked at the vets and get them wormed we will help rehome them.”
Coming for her furry fix was Audrey Taylor who volunteers at the rescue centre she said: “I have been volunteering here for five years.
“I love coming in and helping out, it so important to play with the animal and build a trusting relationship between them and humans.”
To help find homes for the kittens there will be a special open day on Saturday, between 1pm and 4pm.
The day will give prospective families the chance to meet all the kittens and older cats.
The manager said: “No cats or kittens will leave on the day and all normal checks will be made. Please come along on the day if you’d like to offer a cat or kitten a forever home.
