Traffic chaos hit Workington this morning after one of the main roads in the town was closed by police.
Oxford Street has been shut in both directions from John Street to Murray Road as high winds have caused the roof of a building to become unsafe.
A Cumbria Police spokesman said: "At about 10.30pm last night police were called to a report of damage from high winds, to the roof of the old services building on Oxford Street, Workington.
"As a precaution the road was closed and remains closed this morning while the damage is assessed and fixed."
The steps leading up to Oxford Street from Central Way are also closed but there is road access to the multi-storey car park.
