One of Cumbria's mountain rescue teams spent yesterday afternoon helping stranded motorists off a treacherous Kirkstone Pass.
The road, which runs through the heart of the Lake District, had yesterday been inundated with snow, making driving conditions all but impossible.
But with a number of drivers attempting to pass the snow-stricken road yesterday, Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team found themselves spending "an afternoon" shuttling stranded motorists off the high altitude pass.
A spokesman for Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team said: "Until notified by the Highways Agency please consider Kirkstone Pass closed due to snow, stranded and crashed vehicles - even if you’re driving a 4x4.
