An outdoor cinema event raising cash for an arts charity is still going ahead with a quirky twist, despite the lockdown.

Picnic Cinema, which raises cash for Penrith-based Eden Arts and the Trussel Trust, has turned into an online isolation party.

Ordinarily, the event would involve people attending an outdoor cinema viewing of a classic film, with overnight camping, games and music.

However current restrictions due to the coronavirus, meant organisers had to get creative to still run the event.

People are encourages to join Picnic Cinema’s live stream on Facebook at 8pm on Saturday, April 25 for a quiz, fun games and interviews.

At 9pm the party will move onto Netflix Party for a viewing of Groundhog Day.

People who do not have a Netflix account can purchase the film on Amazon or Youtube Premium.

Richard Dedomenici, artist and filmmaker, will be guest star.

A spokesman said: “Richard Dedomenici is the pioneer of low-budget site-specific shot-for-shot movie remakes which took off after his Redux of Bangkok Traffic Love Story, which received better critics reviews than the original film.

“Richard has gone on to Redux over 60 movies.”

Richard is challenging the audience to re-create their favourite 90s movie scenes.

A spokesman for Picnic Cinema said: “It’s simple, just find an image or short clip from your favourite movie, dress your set, find some similar clothing, prop yourself out and get shooting.”

People can send their images via Facebook Messenger, or on Whatsapp via the Picnic Cinema Hotline 07519161730.

People are also encouraged to share them online using the hashtag #PicnicCinemaChallenge.

The event normally involves interviews with the audience.

These will still go ahead, but again in a different way to the ordinary one to ensure everyone abides by social distancing measures.

A spokesman said: “We would like to interview some of you for our infamous audience interviews.

“If you would like to get involved then simply record a quick video of yourself, introducing yourself and where in the world you are, and tell us how you have been handling lockdown so far.

“Send your video to us on Facebook and we will get back in touch to interview the most interesting people.”

Those taking part are encouraged to make a donation to support Eden Arts and the Trussel Trust, which runs foodbanks supporting people in crisis.
