A senior Scottish Police officer has suggested that Cumbrians could face prosecution if they cross the border during the lockdown.
The officer, who has not been named, was speaking to The Daily Record in a story that was published online on Friday.
The Glasgow based paper asked what would happen if England eased the lockdown before Scotland.
He said: “Therein lies the 64 million dollar question.
"They (drivers) are likely to be, on face value, turned back or face prosecution.”
In April Scotland's First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, already caused concern by saying the border could be closed as a contagion measure.
Last week Labour Councillor Sean Marshall, of Dumfries & Galloway Council, had accused politicians of both the Scottish and UK Governments of "upmanship" over the issue.
He added that many people had to cross the border for work and essential shopping.
