Sporting celebrities and stars from the world of entertainment are continuing to offer their support to Danica’s Dream Fund.
They are pictured wearing purple wristbands to show their support of the charity and to help raise awareness.
The charity was established in memory of 15-year-old Danica Maxwell, from Egremont, who died following three brain tumours in 2010. The charity does work for others in her memory.
More than 500 celebrities have now been pictured wearing the wristbands on social media, with stars from television, music and sport all keen to back the cause.
The latest to be photographed are cricketing legends Ian Botham and Merv Hughes; Allo Allo star and panto favourite Vicki Michelle; British criminal barrister and TV personality Judge Rinder; television and radio presenter Angellica Bell; radio and television presenter and journalist Nicky Campbell; former professional rugby player Martin Offiah and former footballer Viv Anderson; singer songwriter and instrumentalist Badly Drawn Boy; singer and presenter Charlotte Church; singer Kevin Rowland from Dexy’s; tennis coach Judy Murray and The Chase’s Shaun Wallace.
Fundraiser for the charity Mark Andrews has tweeted around 44,000 celebrities over the last five years to ask them to wear the band.
Mark said: “I didn’t think we would get A-listers and I’ve got some really good ones. I enjoy getting in touch with them. I particularly enjoyed getting Ian Botham’s last week as he does so much for charity himself. And there’s been Peter Andre and Matt Lucas, Alan Shearer, Brian Lara, and last week Chaser Shaun Wallace not only wore the wristband for the photo, but went on Good Morning Britain and was interviewed wearing it.”
Danica’s dad John Maxwell said: “It’s brilliant they are all good to do it.
"The destroyer off the Chase has approached me by email to see if he can help with a follow up and if there is anything he can do. I’m chuffed to bits.
"There’s also a singer, Owen Paul, who has been wearing his wristband for about seven years. He goes on stage with it.”
Mark has been encouraged by the stars’ reactions to the bands and intends to continue to tweet the stars.
He said some of the stars, such as Nico Rosberg, have sent copies of them wearing the wristband to their own social media, getting the message out to thousands of followers.
John said the fund pot has so far reached a total of £225,000.
