A man was banned from driving after being caught over the limit.
Robert Daniel Chirita, 29, was stopped by police on his Skoda Superb on the street where he lived, Petteril Bank Road, Carlisle, on April 12.
When he was tested he was found to have 45 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath, the legal limit is 35.
John Moran, prosecuting, said: “He was stopped by police because he was swerving all over the road.”
He pleaded guilty at Carlisle and District Magistrates Court on Wednesday afternoon, he spoke through an interpreter.
Chris Toms, defending, said: “The defendant was celebrating his wife’s birthday when he got a call from his mother who is not well.
“She has a number of medical conditions and he had driven over to see her.”
He was disqualified from driving for 14 months, fined £250, made to pay £85 costs and handed a £34 victim surcharge.
