A COASTGUARD helicopter took part in a Lakeland mountain rescue after a hiker injured their ankle.
The incident took place near Criscliffe Knotts, Scafell Pike, on Wednesday after Wasdale Mountain Rescue was alerted at 2.49pm - 18 members of the team were involved.
A team spokesman said: “A stretcher carry from there would be very difficult and there was no clear information about the extent of injuries or medical condition - so a coastguard helicopter was requested.
“Rescue 199 from Prestwick was quick to respond, within 40 minutes it was at the location.
“The team deployed and the helicopter quickly flew the casualty to Carlisle hospital for further treatment.
“Thanks to the coastguard and the one team member who just made it to the scene as the casualty was being lifted.”
