A WHITEHAVEN man who had more than 10,000 illegal images of children tried to destroy evidence a court heard.
Liam Rothery, 32, of Ceda Park, Whitehaven, appeared before Carlisle Crown Court today (August 7) where he was sentenced.
The court heard how on November 7 at about 7.10am officers knocked at his door but got no answer, they then returned 50 minutes later.
In that time Rothery was destroying evidence on an Ipad and a Samsung tablet.
But police were able to recover evidence from the Samsung device.
They discovered Rothery had, during a 16 day period, downloaded seven category B images of girls aged just eight, and 10,000 category C photographs showing females aged as young as just six or seven.
Recorder Ciaran Rankin imposed a 36-month community order. Rothery must complete an accredited sex offenders course, 150 hours’ unpaid work and a rehabilitation requirement.
He must also sign the sex offender register for five years and observe the terms of a sexual harm prevention order.
