Eden Valley theatre group Penrith Players has debuted the next in its series of online plays, as part of its mission to bring live performance closer to local residents in light of Covid-19.

The Village Weirdo, written by Eden author Hannah Sowerby, is now available for viewing on the Penrith Players' website, as well as its Facebook page.

Recorded by Jordan Summers of 1Five Events, the play is the penultimate in the theatre group's series of online plays, put together in a bid to provide its audience with a taste of live theatre in lieu of performing in person, due to the ongoing Covid-19 situation.

Explaining the premise behind her play, Hannah said: “It's a beautiful day in the picturesque Cumbrian village of White-Lily.

"The flowers are all in bloom, the bakery is open and selling its nicest sandwiches, and the postman is bustling about in a jolly fashion.

"It's a good thing too, because those people from the TV are coming, on the hunt for 'Britain's Friendliest Village'.

"The mayor thinks they're bound to win, but there's one problem - the village weirdo.”

Penrith Players would like to thank Create to Connect for supporting the project, and Pete Moran who provided music for the performances.
