A search has been launched for a new landlord to run a Workington pub, as the owner prepares to spend more than £100,000 on refurbishing the establishment.
Community pub company Admiral Taverns has revealed its plans to "transform" The Travellers Rest in Workington into a "family friendly, food-led pub", and is preparing to spend £130,000 in the process.
Ahead of the refurbishment, the company is now looking for a new landlord to step forward and take on the running of The Travellers Rest.
David Balmanno, business development manager for Admiral Taverns said the pub is popular with both locals and tourists, and with the planned investment, the firm hopes to return The Travellers Rest to its "former glory."
“The Travellers Rest is a fantastic opportunity close to the Lake District with a great local and tourist trade," he said.
"With a £130,000 planned spend on the pub to return it to its former glory, as well as the increasing trend for staycations, strong trade in the area looks set to continue and this would make a great investment.
"We’re looking for a landlord who’s passionate about the pub and the area, and will make the most of this opportunity.”
Admiral Taverns hopes the newly refurbished pub will make better use of its beer garden, as well as reintroducing a wider selection of drinks to appeal to a "broader customer base."
The company also says it has provided a significant amount of support for the tenants of its more than 1,000 pubs across the UK throughout the Covid-19 pandemic.
It cancelled rent from March 21 until April 30, and has arranged for subsidised rents for tenants until April next year.
