A CUMBRIAN woman is nearing the end of her mammoth year-long fundraising effort to help a county mountain rescue team, while also working to tidy a treasured Lake District fell.
Lindsay Buck is known to many locals as the "Wasdale Womble" for her inspiring efforts collecting litter left by walkers on Scafell Pike and across the Wasdale valley.
Lindsay is also a committed supporter of the Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team, which regularly rescues those lost and injured in the area.
Nearly a year ago, Lindsay set herself the challenge of climbing Scafell Pike as many times as possible in the 12 months before her 60th birthday to raise funds for the rescue team, all while collecting litter from the fellside.
With her challenge ending on October 11, Lindsay is now less than a month from its completion.
She has raised more than £1,300 so far, and is accepting donations via a JustGiving page.
Her efforts have been cheered on by the Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team.
"Lindsay has always been an amazing supporter of our team," a spokesman for the Wasdale rescue team said.
"Sadly, litter is an increasing problem everywhere, and with a large number of visitors to England’s highest mountain we see a lot of litter left behind.
"Thanks to people like Lindsay we keep our beautiful Wasdale and Scafell Pike as clean as possible."
