Talented young Cumbrian cricketer Brodie Glendinning has spoken of his excitement at being called up to an England Young Lions training camp this week.
Pace bowler Glendinning, from Penrith, was named among 24 players from across the country for the gathering at Loughborough University.
It handed the 18-year-old, who is with Durham’s academy, the chance to stake his claim for a future place in the England under-19 squad.
He was joined by Durham team-mates Jonathan Bushnell and Luke Doneathy at the training camp, which sees a three-day fixture involving all 24 players at the ECB Performance Centre.
“I’m very excited to be heading down to Loughborough for the red ball game," said Glendinning.
“It’s just a great opportunity in such a difficult time. It’s really good that we are able to get some form of representative cricket.”
It is the latest promising step for Penrith Cricket Club and Cumbria youth player Glendinning, one of a number of Cumbrians on the Durham books who also include Carlisle-born all-rounder Liam Trevaskis and teenage prospect Stan McAlindon.
Durham Cricket academy director John Windows said of the call-ups for Glendinning, Bushnell and Doneathy: “This selection is credit to the lads for their performances and hard work they have put in both on and off the field in recent seasons.
“They have worked very hard into the lead up to selection, so now it is about putting what they know well into action this week.”
“As a county it is once again very pleasing to have Durham being represented with an ECB training camp and they have a fantastic opportunity to show what they can do and thoroughly deserve this opportunity.”
