A Cumbrian mountain rescue team has thanked a Penrith garage for the vital role it has played in keeping the team going.

Chambers Garage, in Tirril near Penrith, was presented with a "business supporter" plaque, along with a special letter of thanks, from Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team for the support it has given the team keeping its fleet of vehicles ready for action.

Team vehicle officer Mike Childs presented Chris and Ian Chambers from Chambers Garage with the plaque to show the mountain rescue team's appreciation for their support.

Chambers

Chambers Garage services and maintains the team’s rescue boat trailer, along with its fleet of four Land Rover Defender 110 rescue vehicles.

Most of the incidents the team responds to take place in remote areas of the Ullswater valley, and as such the vehicles are essential for their life-saving work.

A spokesman for the Patterdale team said that the fact one of its vehicles is still going strong four years past the standard 12 years of service is a testament to the quality of the garage's work.

The team and its trustees is currently fundraising for a replacement Land Rover New Defender 110, and is in need of £85,000 for the purchase - £55,000 for the vehicle and a further £30,000 for the specialist modifications needed for its conversion into a rescue vehicle.

So far, £20,000 has been raised.
