Cumbrian Dean Henderson has earned another England call-up.

The Manchester United goalkeeper has been named in Gareth Southgate's squad for games against Wales, Belgium and Denmark this month.

The trio of games could hand Henderson the opportunity to win his first senior cap, as he again competes with Jordan Pickford and Nick Pope for the No1 slot.

All three games are at Wembley, with the Wales clash first on October 8 before the UEFA Nations League resumes against Belgium on October 11 and Denmark on October 14.

Henderson's latest call-up comes with the Whitehaven man receiving further praise after his second Manchester United first-team outing.

Red Devils hero Andy Cole believes Henderson, 23, is going to pile the pressure on David De Gea for the first-choice goalkeeping slot at Old Trafford.

Henderson kept his second clean sheet in as many starts when he helped Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side to a 3-0 Carabao Cup last-16 win at Brighton this week.

The former Carlisle academy keeper made an outstanding save from Leandro Trossard amid another good display on Wednesday night.

Spaniard De Gea currently has the shirt for Premier League games despite some high-profile errors last season, but Henderson is now hard on his heels.

Speaking on Sky, Cole said: “I think De Gea is in a little bit of credit from his previous seasons at Manchester United.

“I think it is more what he doesn’t do. If he has a bit of a season like he did last season, I think Henderson will definitely get his opportunity.

“Henderson has proven to everyone that he is a very good goalkeeper, and De Gea is going to have a battle on to stay as No1 for Manchester United.”

Cole said he was impressed by Henderson’s ability to come into the side and immediately perform to a high standard.

He added: “Playing in goal for Manchester United is not easy, especially when United are playing well, because you’re not really called upon - but when he has been called upon [against Brighton], he has made two real good saves.

“He has definitely impressed me when he has been given the opportunity in goal.”

Henderson made his debut for the Old Trafford club in their League Cup third round win at Luton last week.

A first-team run for Henderson would also provide a financial benefit to Carlisle United under the terms of the young keeper’s move to Old Trafford in 2011.

The England squad also sees first senior call-ups for Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Arsenal defender Bukayo Saka and Leicester midfielder Harvey Barnes.

There is also a return for Ben Chilwell, Harry Maguire and Jordan Henderson, who missed last month's games.

But Mason Greenwood and Phil Foden have been dropped after breaching England's coronavirus protocols after meeting up with two women in the public areas of the team hotel in Reykjavik last month.
