The UK Government will look to relax Covid-19 rules for the Christmas period.
A Government spokesperson has indicated that the Prime Minister will make an announcement next week.
The Whitehall source added that although Christmas will be different this year, rules may be scaled back so that families can meet.
News of an easing in restrictions has been met with warnings from Sage health advisers.
