AN HISTORIC pleasure ‘steamers’ has had a mini makeover, to help passengers returning to the Lake District after lockdown enjoy a greener, sleeker visitor experience.
First launched in 1889, MY Raven is Ullswater Steamers’ largest boat and has been part of the fleet for more than 130 years;
To help give people a more environmentally friendly 21st century experience, Raven has just had two new fuel-saving engines, which could potentially reduce her fuel consumption by almost 4,000 litres per year.
As well as producing less emissions, the engines are significantly quieter than their predecessors.
Rachel Bell, head of marketing and development at Ullswater ‘Steamers’, said: “Maintaining the fragile beauty of our landscape is a top priority for us, and Raven’s latest mini-refit is another way of staying true to our ethos of working towards a zero net carbon future as a sustainable, green business."
