Cumbria has been named among the list of 50 hospital hubs taking part in the first wave of the Covid-19 vaccine programme.
Of the list of 50 hubs that will be taking part in the fist wave of the vaccine, North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust has been named.
The trust runs the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle and West Cumberland Hospital, Whitehaven.
Anna Stabler, Chief Nurse, said: “We are very proud that West Cumberland is to be one of the first hospitals to receive the Covid-19 vaccine. Our team has been working round the clock to put the arrangements in place that will allow us to start protecting the most vulnerable people in our communities.”
The rollout of the Covid-19 vaccine will be the largest scale immunisation programme in the country's history, an NHS boss has said ahead of the first jabs taking place this week.
Vaccinations will be administered at dozens of hospital hubs from Tuesday - with people aged 80 and over, care home workers and NHS workers who are at higher risk the first to receive the jab.
There is still no guaranteed date for when care home residents will be vaccinated despite them being at the top of the priority list, with Health Secretary Matt Hancock saying there are "significant challenges" to overcome.
