Some people could be eligible for a government cold weather payment, to help with increased costs.
Eligibility criteria will apply to people in receipt of certain benefits. These include: pension credit; income support; income-based job seeker's allowance; income-related employment and support allowance; universal credit and support for mortgage interest.
A payment will be made if the average temperature in an area is recorded as, or forecast to be, zero degrees celsius or below over seven consecutive days.
£25 will be paid for each seven day period of very cold weather between November 1 and March 31.
Cold weather payments are different to winter fuel payments.
