PROPOSALS for a new water flume ride have been submitted by Center Parcs in Cumbria.
Eden District Council has received revised plans from the holiday company looking to build the facility at its Whinfell Forest Village site near Penrith.
The plans are for an “extension of the existing sub-tropical swimming paradise to provide a new raft leisure facility with associated plant rooms, service areas and external landscaping”.
The original plans were submitted in November 2018 and approved the following April by the council.
However a revised application was received last month with a public consultation starting on December 23.
Changes were submitted because amended drawings and a change in colour made “considerable improvements to the design whilst lessening the impact on the landscape”.
The changes include “decreasing the footprint of the building, a reconfigured flume design, improved connection between proposed and existing building and simplified glazing to create a more aesthetically pleasing design, flumes to be two shades of green.”
In September, Center Parcs announced that it had opened four tree houses at the site which were specially adapted for those with limited mobility.
They were built using four extra columns, providing increased space and wheelchair accessible features throughout.
According to a spokesman at the time: “Each tree house offers breath-taking views of their forest surroundings, sitting as high as 11m amongst the treetops.
“With Cumbria having recently been voted the third best holiday destination in the UK, Whinfell Forest’s tree houses offer the perfect opportunity for a relaxing staycation in the forest.
“They are uniquely placed to look towards the Lake District’s Eastern Fells, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.”
The tree houses have four en-suite bedrooms with private balconies, an outdoor hot tub, gas barbecue, sauna, games den, and a large open plan living space and kitchen.
The construction of the tree houses cost £4m.
