A RUGBY club has launched a £10,000 crowdfunding drive to help it recover from the Coronavirus.
Yesterday Cockermouth RUFC kickstarted an online donation page to help to get people active and "reduce the social, mental and physical impacts of Covid-19".
Chris Wright, coach and member of the facility development committee said: “We believe that the “CRUFC WASPS campaign will help you 'get active' outdoors.
"It's a great project that will open up our site to many new clubs, organisations and the general public.
"We believe our site can become a hub of physical activity where local sport clubs and businesses can expand what they offer and the general public can access at their leisure to take part in many forms of physical activity.
"The Grasmoor sports complex is a fantastic community asset and one we need to invest in to ensure it’s available for generations to come.”
The club said that additional funding could be accessed if they hit their target as the crowdfunding organisation has teamed up with many organisations including Sport England and British Cycling to provide more money to successful campaigns.
Among the first priorities for the club is to complete its outdoor gym and adding an astro turf surface.
Any additional funds will be used to draw down further local and national funding to resurface the Multi Use Games Area and provide a walk/run/cycle track area around the area.
