Adverse weather has forced Avanti West Coast to cancel all trains between Carlisle and Scotland.
The disruption is expected to until midday.
A spokesman for the service provider said: "Expected heavy rain is bringing adverse weather conditions in Scotland this means the West Coast Main Line will be closed between Carlisle and Scotland until midday.
"As a result, there will be no trains to / from Motherwell, Glasgow and Edinburgh and changes to services between Preston and Carlisle.
Network Rail, Avanti West Coast and TransPennine Express staff are working hard to monitor the weather and strongly recommend customers check before they travel.
In addition, Avanti West Coast will be operating an amended timetable between Preston and Carlisle with an hourly service. J
Journeys between these stations may be subject to further alterations as a result of the heavy rain forecast in Lancashire and Cumbria.
