A POPULAR Irish entertainer is set to stop off in Cumbria on his latest tour as the country emerges from lockdown.

With gigs and other events soon to be allowed once more as coronavirus restrictions are lifted, it has been revealed that Daniel O'Donnell MBE will perform at the Sands Centre in Carlisle on October 20.

The singer, television presenter, and philanthropist first rose to public fame in 1983, and has gone on to become something of a household name in Ireland and Britain.

He will be touring the country throughout Britain - but Carlisle is the only chance to catch him in the North-West.

Known for his close relationship with his fanbase, and his charismatic and engaging stage presence, O'Donnell's music has been described as a mix of country and Irish Folk.

He has sold over ten million records to date and is widely considered a “cultural icon” in Ireland.

O'Donnell is a prominent ambassador for his home county of Donegal & competed on BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing in 2015.

As well as domestic success, he has also had considerable success in the US and Australia.

In 2012, he became the first artist to have a different album in the British charts every year for 25 consecutive years.

In October last year, Daniel released his latest studio album Daniel, which reached number 3 in the UK charts, making it his highest Top 40 placing.

To date he has amassed 40 top 40 albums, including 18 top 10 albums, with 16 of them this century, a feat that has not been achieved by any other recording artist.

Tickets for the gig are available online now.
