A WARNING has been issued after poisonous parsnips wash up on the beach.
Allerdale borough council have issued the warning which said: "We have had reports of what could be Hemlock Water Dropwort roots having washed up on the beach at Allonby. Found growing near ditches, rivers and streams this plant is often called 'dead man's fingers, the roots look a bit like parsnips. The sighting was recorded in low-tide so it may well have moved with the tide.
"It is poisonous both to humans and animals.
"Therefore we would urge people to be extra vigilant and not to touch these items if you come across them. And also keep dogs and other animals away from it.
"Seek advice if you think you, or your dog, may have been in contact with it.
"Please report any sightings to us at: https://www.allerdale.gov.uk/en/report/report-litter/ and we'll do our best to locate it and dispose of it safely."
