Bus routes will be temporarily moved next week as part of a revamp scheme of Carlisle’s bus station.
Work on Lonsdale Street will begin next Monday with plans to completely replace the current bus shelter with a new and modern design.
Rob Jones, managing director of Stagecoach Cumbria and North Lancashire, said: “We’re pleased to be able to start work on replacing the current shelter which will give passengers a much better experience when they travel by bus in Carlisle.
“The new station design will give more space to passengers as they get on and off the bus, and we’re also improving lighting which will help during the dark winter evenings."
From Monday May 17, buses will drop off and depart from nearby streets to allow for the work to take place.
The bus station is scheduled to open again on Wednesday, June 2.
Mr Jones, added: “We have aimed to keep disruption to a minimum while work is carried out to improve the Lonsdale Street bus station.
"The timetables for each service will remain unchanged for the duration of the work, but we ask that passengers take note of the new temporary arrival and departure points.”
Passengers who use the following services will be dropped off at a temporary stop on Lonsdale Street, while buses will now depart from the Apple Tree bus stop (Stand I) on Lowther Street:
Services 93 Carlisle - Bowness on Solway, 300 Carlisle - Workington, 400 Carlisle - Silloth, 554 Carlisle - Keswick, 600 Carlisle - Cockermouth.
Services 73 (Carlisle - Keswick), 91A (Carlisle - Caldew School) and 104 (Carlisle - Penrith - Centre Parcs) will drop off at Devonshire Street (Stand F) but depart from different locations. The 73 and 91A, will leave from Broadacre House in Lowther Street (Stand T), and the 104 departs from a temporary stop near The Halston, in Warwick Road.
All of the services that typically depart from Stand 5 at the bus station (79 Carlisle - Dumfries; 179 Carlisle - Annan; 685 Carlisle - Brampton - Newcastle) will instead be dropping off at the temporary stop in Warwick Road near The Halston, which is also where the 79 and 179 depart from. The 685 service will depart from Club Britannia, in Lowther Street (Stand H).
