CARLISLE College has been nominated for an award in this year’s FE Week & AELP Apprenticeship Awards 2021.
The college has been shortlisted for the ‘Promoting Apprenticeships Campaign of the Year’ category in light of the success of its 100 in 100 campaign last year.
Th scheme set to minimise the impact of Covid-19 on students by helping to develop Apprenticeship placements, securing 100 Apprenticeship Opportunities in 100 Days, between July 1 and October 9 2020.
Carlisle College was selected out of 350 entries that applied to the categories, in a virtual event that was hosted by the comedian Rory Bremner earlier this month.
112 employer’s handed out 117 apprenticeships over the course of the scheme, which exceeded the college’s aim of 100 days.
Many local stakeholder’s including Carlisle City Council, Cumbria LEP, Britain’s Energy Coast Business Cluster, Cumbria Chamber of Commerce, Carlisle Ambassadors and The Family Business Network worked as project partners for the scheme.
Martin Norris, Business Development Manager, at Carlisle College said;“100 in 100 has been used as a vehicle to generate training and employment opportunities for the people of North Cumbria as well as the wider region.
The project has been able to help local businesses identify, plan for and fulfil future skills needs, accelerating COVID-19 recovery through skills acquisition and talent development, and we are thrilled that this campaign has been recognised nationally.”
The nomination comes at the same time as Carlisle College’s latest scheme ‘Project Next Gen’ is gaining support from local employers.
Project:Next Gen aims to address the aspiration gap through a range of inspirationally led content with a different theme each month.
This will include employers providing workshops, offering apprenticeships and sharing tips with students who wish to take part.
Andy Dodds, Assistant Principal at Carlisle College said: “It’s timely that we are celebrating the award nomination for 100 in 100 as Carlisle College’s latest initiative, Project: Next Gen, with its aim of inspiring the next generation of Apprentices, is building momentum.
“We would like to extend our thanks to all those employers and businesses who supported 100 in 100 and continue to support Carlisle College.”
The winners of the Apprenticeship Awards 2021 will be announced at a National Awards Gala Dinner at the ICC Birmingham on July,8.
