EARLIER this month leading livestock auctioneers Harrison & Hetherington held their monthly Beef Breeding cattle sale.
A huge entry of cows and heifers with calves at foot were displaying in the ring at Borderway Mart at Carlisle to a large ringside of buyers which led to one of the dearest trades to date.
Seventy-seven lots sold to £2,000 or more.
Heifers and calves averaged a fantastic £2224, cows and calves to £2087, and all units averaging £2157.
John McAlister, West Thomaston run of heifers and cows with calves at foot sold to £4200 and £3800 for British Blue cross heifers with Limousin cross heifers and Limousin calves at foot.
Messrs Vance, Bridge House Farms, run of stock cows topping at £4000 for a Limousin cow and Limousin calf.
Messrs Stephenson, Far Cappleside Farm sold a British Blue cross cow and Limousin calf for £3050 and a Blonde cross heifer and Limousin calf for £3000.
Included in this sale, was the dispersal of the Brack-a-Broom Pedigree Blonde herd on behalf of Late Mr Crellin Frost. Topping this section was a Blonde cow and calf selling to £2700 followed by £2650 and in-calf Blonde cows to £2000.
Messrs Muir, Middle Farm sold a Limousin cross bulling heifer selling to £1480 twice.
Ten breeding bulls sold to a top of 4600gns for a Limousin from Messrs Watson, Dorryfield Farm.
