Pirelli Tyres UK is delighted to be sponsoring the COVID-19 Community Champion of the Year Award for the Pride of Cumbria Awards 2021, a very special opportunity to honour local community heroes – those who have gone above and beyond over the last 12 months.

This year’s Pride of Cumbria Awards is a unique event highlighting everyone who has made a difference, from keyworkers, NHS staff, volunteers, charity organisations, friendly neighbours to social and care workers in a year like no other. It truly has been our everyday heroes who have helped keep the community spirit strong and helped people through the coronavirus pandemic.

As such, Pirelli is proud to be recognising the COVID-19 Community Champion of the Year, someone in the heart of such a strong community who we believe has truly risen to the challenge and offered strength to others during an unprecedented year.

Pirelli first embraced Cumbria when the Carlisle plant was launched in 1969, 40 years after Pirelli first began operating in the United Kingdom in Burton-upon-Trent. With such a long-standing history in Cumbria, over 50 years, the local communities in the area are truly at the heart of Pirelli.

“After a challenging and unpredictable year for many, it is an absolute honour to be able to hear first-hand about the dedication and support so many inspiring individuals and groups in the community have offered to local residents.

“The Pride of Cumbria Awards 2021 shines a great light on all of the initiatives that have been vital in building the strength of the local community during this time, one that we are very proud to be a part of. As sponsor of the COVID-19 Community Champion of the Year Award, there is no doubt that the judging process will be difficult with so many incredible stories, but one that I personally look forward to taking part in.”
