QUESTIONS have been raised over the safety of Euro 2020 by News & Star Readers after two England players were forced to self-isolate.
England duo Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell are isolating after coming into contact with Scotland midfielder Billy Gilmour as Covid-19 further disrupts Euro 2020.
The Three Lions have announced that the pair are being kept away from the rest of the squad after "interacting" with Gilmour after last Friday's 0-0 Group D draw.
It follows the news that Gilmour had tested positive for Covid-19 and was isolating for 10 days, leading him to miss tomorrow's game against Croatia.
The Chelsea player had hugged his club team-mates after Friday's game, although national team boss Gareth Southgate toinght said the situation was "nothing to do with being on the pitch".
Posting on Facebook, Kevin Cowing said: "Did Gilmour pass the virus or did he get the virus off Mount or Chilwell after the 20 minutes of close contact in the tunnel before the game?"
Julie Bowe added: "So should they all not be self isolating as per COVID rules? Or are they exempt being footballers as no rules seem to be followed by players or supporters?"
Others took the opportunity to joke following a poor performance by England players against Scotland, with captain Harry Kane criticised.
Andy Sabin-Hope wrote: "Gareth Southgate has confirmed that Harry Kane won't have to self isolate as he didn't get anywhere near the ball or a Scottish defender all match," and Michael Cameron added: "Pity the two aren't Kane and Sterling."
England say Mount and Chilwell are isolating "as a precaution" after consultation with Public Health England, despite confirming on Monday that their whole squad returned negative lateral flow tests today, after also recording negative results from Sunday's mandatory UEFA PCR testing.
