FOLLOWING two and a half years in limbo, an Allerdale pub will officially reopen on Saturday.
The grand opening of The Lowther Arms takes place on Saturday June 26 and the big day is being called a celebration of hard work behind the scenes.
The Lowther Arms in Mawbray is now a co-operative and community pub owned by 297 shareholders, it will be run by tenants Maddie and Warren who have brought the pub out of disuse.
Chris Atkinson, project chairman said: “Considering the Lowther Arms Community Project only purchased the pub on 31 March, we’ve achieved a lot in 10 weeks.”
“There is still refurbishment work to complete so we hope that everyone will be patient with us and enjoy what we’ve achieved so far.”
It is believed to be the first coastal community pub of its kind with stunning new coastal themed decoration.
The public are being welcomed to the celebration to toast its success, all Covid-19 safety precautions will be observed.
Food will be served on the day, bookings can be made by emailing: pub@thelowtherarms.co.uk
The day will also include a blessing from the area’s vicar Bryan Rothwell and the ribbon-cutting ceremony at 12 noon.
An announcement of the grand prize draw winning shareholder will be made at 4pm and the raffle draw will take place at 5 pm.
Prizes in the raffle include a free airport transfer for six anywhere in the UK, a four night stay in a caravan in the Lake District and a two night in the Lowther Arms pod. Food and drinks can also be won.
